In the News: Shipping Giant Moves DMV Operation from Maryland to Northern Virginia

BIZJOURNALS.COM - DHL eCommerce has relocated its distribution center near BWI Marshall Airport to a new facility in Prince William County.

The company, a division of international shipping company DHL, leased 138,000 square feet in a new building at 11400 University Blvd. in Manassas.

The building is located at the Redstone Industrial park, which was developed by Frederick, Maryland-based Matan Cos. It features 242,000 square feet of distribution, manufacturing, warehousing, data center or life science space.

The developer bought the 47.5-acre Redstone site south of Interstate 66 and west of Route 234 in 2021 and later sold 28 acres to Carter Machinery.

On the remaining acreage, Matan developed the new DHL eCommerce building and a 104,000-square-foot building at 11450 University Blvd., which remains available for lease. Both buildings were built on spec, per a spokesperson.

DHL eCommerce said the new facility, double the size of its previous Mid-Atlantic distribution center at 6670 Business Parkway in Elkridge, Maryland, will employ 130. It has 41 dock doors and also features meeting rooms and office space. It sits about 30 minutes from Dulles International Airport.

The company has previously relocated to larger distribution centers in four U.S. metro areas.

Matan was represented internally by Brad Benna. DHL was represented by Andrew Hegmann of Fischer Commercial Real Estate in Dallas.
