Global pharmaceuticals manufacturer Granules India to expand in Manassas

An international pharmaceuticals manufacturer that set up its first and only U.S. facility in Virginia five years ago is planning to expand in the state.

Granules India Ltd., which has 130 employees at its research and development facility in Chantilly, announced Wednesday it will invest $12.5 million to establish a new packaging facility in Prince William County. The company, based in Hyderabad, India, will lease 79,000 square feet at 7413 Cushing Road in Manassas, from which it will package and ship its pharmaceutical products.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said the state had competed with Maryland for the project, which is expected to create about 57 jobs. His predecessor, former Gov. Ralph Northam, had approved a $200,000 state grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Prince William County in luring the facility.

It comes as Prince William County looks to up its life sciences quotient to boost economic development.
